SOCIAL STUDIES LEARNING COMPETENCIES

Students must meet each competency by the end of the semester with a minimum score of 2 (out of 4) in order to receive credit. This will be done with a wide variety of activities and assessments, both individually and in small and larger groups.

All MHS Social Studies courses are designed to teach students the skill-based competencies of research, comprehension, analysis, and evaluation.

RESEARCH builds the foundation of life-long learning. Students will demonstrate the ability to locate content specific information using varied sources.

COMPREHENSION is the basic understanding of course content knowledge. Students will be expected to apply their knowledge to the higher order thinking skills of analysis and evaluation.

ANALYSIS is the ability to make connections, recognize relationships, and relate content knowledge to larger concepts and themes.

EVALUATION is a skill which allows students to become independent thinkers.  Students will develop informed opinions, make predictions, draw conclusions, and pose questions for further reflection.
